What you love

12-10 pillars.jpg

Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive because what the world needs is people who are alive.

- Howard Thurman

What do you love doing? What are you interested in? What is something that if I were to say that it would be happening this evening, that you would be excited about?

Have a think of five possible things right now

Someone put on the new Top gun movie trailer the other day, Tom Cruise is still there, on his motorbike, probably with his 80’s music playlist of ‘take my breath’ away still playing, but then the fighter jets come on and I’m excited. I love aviation, watching this trailer brings a smile to my face. I’m inspired to couple it with another passion and start drawing planes.

When you do what you love, the outcome is feeling energized.

A good way to identify positive loves in your life is the outcome at the end leaves you feeling energised. You may be physically worn out after a game of basketball, touch rugby or lawn bowls but you feel satisfied and smiling at the end.

You don’t have to be great at something or the best. That isn’t the goal, enjoyment, peaked interest, the challenge of doing it and completion are the satisfying ingredients.

Using your talents brings you alive

What comes naturally to you or you are interested in? Arts, music, writing, sports, discovery, discussion?

For me sitting down at night and drawing brings me much more satisfaction than watching TV. It’s hard though, after putting the kids in bed, I’m tired, I can’t be bothered doing it, it takes effort to get the things out. But when I have drawn, I feel better than spending the night lost in TV.

What if I don’t know what I love?

What was the last thing you remember doing that you enjoyed?

There are activities that you don’t even know that you will love until you get out there and try them!

Fixing things, sports, arts, cycling, hobbies, rapping!?

I am not a great or even good rapper but I love it, you don’t need to be good at the thing you do to enjoy it. The goal is not to sign a record deal, it is to have fun!

Get on Pinterest and scroll through the albums looking for something that will spark your interest.

Finally Infuse the things that you love into your everyday life. Pictures of interests, a ball to play with close by, a time of the day or week to do what you love.
